Medal Tally

LI: to use the most efficient strategies to find answers.

I have created a DLO explaining our strategy and answers for a certain maths problem. The maths problem that we have chosen was based off of the Olympic medal totals for each country. Using information from 2 different charts of Medal statistics we found out the current top 10. I have made a screencastify video explaining my strategy.

Gymnastic 2 | Maths

  L.I To use the most efficent strategy to find the answer.


This weeks focus in maths was all about talking about our strategies. With this in mind, we were acquired to complete some maths challenges set up by our teacher. The challenge I will be show casing is Challenge 2. In this challenge, i was required to solve two questions. the first question was to find out what the gold medallist's score was, and the second question was comparing 2nd place to 3rd places scores and seeing how much 2nd place won by. 

Here is a screenwriting of me explaining my strategy to solving these questions. 

SUPERFINGERS Challenge

Our focus for this activity was based around recalling our time tables fast. The goal of the game was to remember our time tables and say them as quick to beat the opponent. To play this game, we pick a word and roll two dice that go up to 12. After doing so, we look at the dice and multiply the numbers. If one of the dice roll on 6 and the other on 3, we go 6x3 and say the answer (18) as fast as we can. The person who gets the answer correct fastest, erases one letter from the word. In the end, if you answer the equations and have no letters left, you are announced the winner.

First, we chose a partner to challenge. Whoever won out of the pair gets to challenge another person who won from their pair. The person who won that goes onto the quarter finals, then the semi-finals and then the finals. The person who won the finals is the winner and fastest person to recall their time tables. Afatia won the finals against Chris. 

I enjoyed this activity a lot because it was a fun experience and everybody had a very big wave of shock with who won. I hope we get the oppurtunity to do this again.

Badminton Challenge 3 | Maths

 L.I To use the most efficent strategy to find the answer.

This weeks focus in maths was all about talking about our strategies. With this in mind, we were acquired to complete some maths challenges set up by our teacher. The challenge I will be show casing is Challenge 3. In challenge three, we were acquired to figure out how many right angles there are on an entire badminton racket. In this video I explained my strategy to solve the problem.

Financial Capabilites

LI: To understand a budget is a plan to save money.

A budget is an amount of income given for a certain time period. This activity was based off of strategizing how much money is spent with the given amount of money. Each question was there to test the most efficient strategy to us. We read the questions carefully, taking in the information we required in order to answer each of the five questions. The Smith family planned a museum night with the budget of $45. The entry fee was free for all of the kids but costed $20 for both of the parents/adults. The kids were allowed to take part in every activity costing them $18 for all three of the kids. With their remainder money ($7), they had ice-cream which was $2 for one scoop. In the end, the Smith family had $1 left and successfully spent within the budget of 45 dollars.

Number Banks | Maths

 L.I to practice our place value knowledge. 

In this DLO above, I was required to adjust these numbers. The numbers that I were given were 49,2615. With these numbers, I needed to adjust the numbers, as the document had told me. 

(e.g What is the largest six-digit number you can make?) The purpose of this task was to help us challenge our place value knowledge, into re-arranging these numbers. 

I really enjoyed this task, because of how it challenged my knowledge.

Pie Chart | Maths

 L.I To plan and carry out a statistical investigation. 


Fau, Chris and I asked different students in LS2 4 different questions. Those questions were; ‘What is your favorite Color’ ‘What is your favorite Animal’ ‘What is your favorite Food’ and ‘What is your favorite brand’. After gathering the data, we recorded it on a piece of paper and then created a graph. We chose one of the 4 questions as a topic for our graph. The question we chose was ‘What is your favorite Color?’. 4 students liked blue, 4 students liked purple, 2 students like black, 2 people liked green, 1 person liked Sage, 1 person liked red, and 1 person liked yellow. With the data gathered, we formed a pie chart/graph. from this graph that we had created, we found out the percentage of the classrooms, favourite colors, the results can be shown above.


I really enjoyed this activity, because it was very fun to ask students about their personal favourites and finding out the color that the majority of the class like.

Probability

L.I To create a probability tree to explain your thinking. 

Probability is the chance that something is most likely to happen. LS2 has been studying Probability for two weeks. Ong and I have been working together on this DLO to explain how Probabilities work. In small groups, part of LS2 had a maths session with Mrs. Anderson talking about Probabilities. One of the maths problems that occured through our session can be seen in this DLO. We used Probability tree to solve these problems. Here are the results.

Game Shopping Maths Challenge

L.I To find the most efficient strategy to solve problems. 


In this Slideshow, I have completed 3 maths challenges in this DLO, out of 5. These maths challenges were created by one of the students form LS2. The math challenges were based on gaming equitment nd concluded 6 questions. I found it really challenging, because I had to divded and multiplly big numbers. I actually learnt divded decimal numbers. You can see what I am talking about in the DLO.

Adding and Subtracting Negitive Numbers | Maths Challenge

L.I To add and subtract positive and negitive numbers.
As Term 3 has started, we have now carried onto learning about Adding and Subtracting Negitive Numbers. LS2, had a practice round with trying out Negitive Numbers, and did very well. Mrs. Anderson had then set up 4 Megitive Number Word Problems for us to solve. In groups, Fau, Sakshi and I, had worked together to find the Answer for Question 4. Here Is the DLO.

Long Division | Maths

Learning Intention: To find the answer to the questions using long division, To be able to explain the steps of long division.

As apart of my Maths learning, I have been practising how to solve Long Division problems. Vayan and I have been working together to accomplish this challenge. Mrs. Anderson, had set up a bunch of Long Division equations, for us to solve. We had picked one and here is the results. Subway Combo Challenge | Maths

L.I to find the most efficient strategy to solve a maths challenge. 



Sakshi & I, had worked together to solve this maths problem. The maths question, can be seen at the top of this DLO. The main question that we had to solve was "How much money will PBS meed to pay for all of the orders?". Sakshi and I had different strategy, but we picked the one that we thought that was most efficient. The Strategy was Long Multiplication. We also included the main information that caused us to get the answer. Here are the results.

I use the statisstical imformation on my blog to help me set goals for 2020. Before I can publish my blog post I need to complete the task. I worked the average number of posts I made for each month and used this data set a realistic and achievable blogging goal.

Using Exponents

L.I (Learning Intention):To understand the exponent of a number says how many times to use the number in a multiplication

As apart of our maths learning, we have been practising using Exponents. Sakshi, Fau and I had worked together to solve this one question. The Important information that we had to solve these maths questions. Here is the strategy that we have done to solve this question.

Exponents Meaning: Exponents means The Number the top(called power),  and the number called the Base, The exponent of a number says how many times to use that number in a multiplication.

Ta'Ovala Maths Challenge

L.I to find the most efficient strategy to solve a problem.

As presented in this DLO, Heavenly and I have worked collaportively to create this DLO. In this DLO, we are solving a maths problem; about the Ta'ovala.  In this DLO we had to find out how many peices of Matierial that htey needed to make 26 Ta'ovala's. Here is our stratigising. 



What is a Ta'ovala? A Ta'ovala is a Tongan Traditional clothing/mat, that is worn for special occasions(Funrals, Church or Ceremony's etc.). It is worn around you waist, and is tied with a peice of rope made out of coconut skin.

Opening of the Wheke | Maths


L.I to find the most efficient strategy to solve a problem.

In this DLO, I have completed my 3rd maths challenge for wk 5. In this DLO, I had to find out how many of the guests sat and how many stood at the back. The main information that I had was that their were 621 guests attending. I really enjoyed doing this task because it kept me on track with my maths and a little bit challenging, so I thought more.

In this DLO you can see, Sakshi, Fau and I, had worked collaborativly to solve a maths challenge. In this Maths Challenge, their were three questions where we eached solved one. Fau did the the first, Sakshi did the thrid and I had done the second. I really enjoyed doing this task becaue I got to learn the strategys that Sakshi and Fau had used and we got to collaborate. Math Challenge 1 Wk 5

L.I to find the most efficient strategy to solve a problem.
Apart of our maths learning, we are practising to find the most efficinet way to solve a maths problem. The maths problem that I have completed today is the Math, Challenge 1, Wk 5. The Question was "Whaea Marama was organising the kai for the Hui at Nga Hau e Wha National Marae. She said they needed to allow for 7 slices of bread for each person attending per day. If each loaf contains 21 sices and the Hui will last for four days, How many loaves does she need to order to cater for 267 people?".
