L.I is to make a structure of a tunnel.
This week for inquiry we had to make a tunnel. The things that we needed to make a tunnel was straws, spaghetti sticks, tape, scissors and rubber bands.
The first thing we had to do was get split into groups of four. When we got into groups of four we had to decide as a group how much things we needed. When we came up with an Idea we had to draw what we were imaging what it would look like. When we finished doing that we went to show the teacher so that she could give us the material. When we got the material we had to think of what it would look like. What we first came up was rubber band the spaghetti sticks.
Then when we came up with a better one we went with it. The first thing that we started on was the road. We built the road with straws. We also had to measure it the size of the tray. Our one was a bit long but then we cut it. The next thing we did was make a tunnel with straws. It wasn't really like a tunnel but it was like a square. After that we started to use the spaghetti sticks so we un tied the rubber bands of the spaghetti sticks. Later when we finished we got someone out the group to hold the spaghetti so that we could tape it. We had to use a lot of tape. The straws kept on going down because the spaghetti sticks kept on putting weight on it. Next we had to wrap around Cling Wrap so that the sand wouldn't go inside of the tunnel. We also had to but the ferrari in the tunnel so that we had to see if it was going to fit in the tunnel. When we finished we had to fill it with sand and see if it would survive. It failed completely. The only thing that we had to do was do more straws so that it could be more stable.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Mrs Fisi'iahi.

Kiwi Sport| Swimming
L.I is to be safe in water.
Today It was really sad day for me because it was the last day of swimming. I liked doing this terms kiwi sport because they help me learn new stuff and how to be safe in water. LS1 has enjoyed this terms kiwi sport.
The first thing that we did was take the roll. After the roll Helen asked us if any of us knew what sequence means. I answered with saying In order. It was correct. When we finished we had to safe entry into the water. When we did we had to get a board. Helen gave us a board each. what we had to do was kick to the other side. we done it several times. We all hands had to hold the start of the boardand but our head down to the water.
When we finished we started to A Mushroom. To do a mushroom you start with floating like a ball. When you do that you do a T with your body. after that you get into a streamline. It was so fun. When we finished doing that we done circle arms while doing mushroom. Then after that we had to rotate. It was so funny because it was hard for me.
After that we had to do a race. The first race was with me and Fau. We had to use the boards and Kick. We started from the deep end and to the second platform. After that we had to sit on the board and tread. it was so hard for me. Fau Won because she kept more balance.
When It was I over I thanked helen for teaching us how to survive in water. Thanks to this swimming lesson I now know how to survive in water

L.I is to have fun at kiwi can.
This week in kiwi Can it was Fun week. Fun week is when we get two pick two games to play. Are teachers for this kiwi can were Mrs Lily and Mr Matt. I had a lot of fun at this kiwi Can because we got to choose a game and get to play as a team.
First we had to pick a two games to play so we all got to say a game. Them he wrote it on the whiteboard . The game that I said was Shark attack. The two games that we picked was Octopus and invisible rugby.
The first game that we played was Octopus. To play octopus you will need a tager. Then the rest of the others start at the start line. The person who is a tager can say people with shoes and the people that are wearing shoes they have to run to the other side. when they tag you, you have to stay still where you were tagged and tag other people. It was so fun. I didn't win but I was close.
The next game was Invisible Rugby is game where we get split into teams equally. Then when Mrs Lily shouts out numbers that amount of people had to play rugby. Mr Matt will also choose some one to have the ball. You can also tag them and when you tag them you are the one that has the ball but the person that you tagged can not tag you back. this game was really tiring. I went to go get some water.
I enjoyed this week's Kiwi Can because I got to play games and work as a team with other people that I usually don't work with.

Kiwi Sport | Swimming
Today In Kiwi Sport we have been learning how to swim safely in water. I have enjoyed doing this terms Kiwi Sport because e get to learn new skills is water. Our teacher for this weeks Kiwi Sport was Helen.
The First thing we did was answer Questions. Helen Asked us questions and we had to answer them. The First question was What do you do when you are stuck in a rip? when you are stuck in a rip first you put your hand straight in the air and call for help. What part of the pool do you swim in? you swim between the flags. What is it called when you get really cold? Hypothermia.
After answering questions we got on to sculling. When we skull we put our hands straight together and dive into the water and paddle with your legs. We had to scull to the other platform and swim back to the platform we started on. We done that three times.
When we finished doing that we had to feet first with your hands sculling. You use this strategy when you are in a river . You use this in a river because your legs can help you bump off the rocks. We done that two times going to the other platform and to the platform we started on.
After that we had to dive and get these rubber duckies in the water. It was two at a time. For me it was Me and Lukah. It was really fun to dive.
After we finished doing that we started to do treeding. You can use treading when you are in deep water. We got a noodle and but it at the back of us. We ha to treed for three minutes. We thought that it was hard but when we tried it, It was not that bad. After that we had to treed without the noodle for one minute. We done surprisingly good.

Defensive structure
This week on Tuesday we had a special guest come in. his name was called Mr Chang. Mr Chang Is a person that works for Defense force. He came to our class to talk about Bombs, Explosives and guns. We could have also called him Issac because he felt old when He got called Mr Chang.
First what we talked about was defensive mechanism. We talked about it being camouflaged. Camouflage means something that blends in.
Next what we talked about was bombs. The first bomb we saw was a dumb-bomb. A dumb-bomb is a bomb that has no control and just drops so that is why they call it dumb-bomb. After talking about that we talked about Smart-bombs. Yes the smart-bomb is controlled. The difference is of the shape. The smart-bomb is longer. We also watched a video talking about bombs and explosives. We also had to see the shape of it.
After that we got to be in groups of five. The activity we had to do is make something safe for the toy helicopter so it doesn't get blown away. The equipment that we used was straws, paper, tape and scissors. at first we didn't know how to do this and then we thought ov'e an Idea. Lucky our one survived. We were so happy that it survived.
I have enjoyed doing this because I got to learn more and got to do an activity using straws and paper.

Making a road
Today in Inquiry we have been learning about roads. Today I actually made a road. This road took a lot of work Me, Angelica, Alayah and Florence were working on the road really hard.
The equipment that we used was cardboard, Tape, straws and toothpick.
First we got split into to groups of four. The people in my group was Florence, Angelica and Alayah. We had to choose someone to go and work on the foundation. The person we choose was alayah. After that we had to get a tray. There was mini lambos to test it out. We only had forty minutes to do it so it was intense. We also had to use all of the cardboard.
First to make this we used the tape to connect all of the cardboard together. we got one of the mini cars to test it out. It was successful. After that It kept on going out so We but speed bumps. We got another mini car to test it. some of it was successful but some wasn't. After that we went and added barrier with the straw. we needed a lot of tape to do this.
When the time was over we had to carry the road out outside. When we were taking it outside it started to fall apart but when we got to the grass. We also saw a lot of other peoples roads. They looked really good. We could not touch the foundation or it would be messed up. The foundation was sand.
When it was our turn everyone thought that a car wouldn't make it. But until the first car made it proved everyone wrong. We only got one car to the other side but Our work was really good.
I enjoyed this because I got to work with people that I haven't worked with and I got to build my own road and I could decide what I want to do with it.

Kiwi Sport
L.I is to be safe in water.
This term for Kiwi sport we have been learning how to swim. Swimming is really important because If you are in danger in water you can use the things that the swimming teachers have taught us. We swim at the YMCA pools.
In swimming our teaching wa Geoffrey. First he took the role. He didn't know how to pronounce it so we just said our names. The first thing that Geoffrey taught us was swimming with the board. To swim with the board we had to but or fingers on the tip of the board and paddle to the other side. While you are doing that you also have to but your face underwater because it will make you go faster. We tried it one more time.
The next thing that we did is arm stroking on the board. To arm stroke you need to but your fingers to one side and but your thumb on the other side. Them arm stroked. Arm stroke is when you but one arm backwards around and do it with the other hand. when we did Arm strokes we still had to keep our head down so that we could go faster. We tried it two times to the other platform.
After that we went to the deeper side. On the deeper side we had to do Treading. You use treading if you are going to drown. To tread you have to but your legs in circles and your hands palm in and out. we had to do in thirty seconds without touching the ground.
Another way of doing it is by floating on your back. To float on you back you have to lift yourself of water. We also had to do that in thirty seconds. We took turns one by one.
Later after we finished that we went to the little kids pool. We all had to hold hands and be in a circle. we had to be careful of the walls our we could of hit our heads so there was swimming teachers to supervise.
This week I have learned in Kiwi Sport is how to arm stroke on a board and to tread for thirty seconds. The hardest one for me I think is the thirty seconds of treading because my legs started to get tired when I was treading.

Our Energiser was a add Master. So it was like rock, paper, scissors put you don't say that. You can choose how much fingers you can use. So whatever number that your competition is doing you have to add it with you numbers. First we done practice. We done it Clockwise. I won the first time and just managed to beat three people. Then it wa real game. We were allowed to do tricks and do two hands that made it harder. The person that won that game had to verse Mr O. Of course Mr O won. Then Mr Matt and Mr O versed. I don't know who won but it was really funny because Mr Matt tried to do tricks on Mr Ogilvie.
The next game was about frustration. It was called Tower building. So we got but into groups of six. We had to make the fancies tower. It didn't need to be high it just had to look fancy. We finished it first but then Victoria breathed and made it fall. The we were trying to be calm. But we managed to get it done. But we just but all the cards on top.

We had to do a procedure for Mr Ogilvie to walk to the office. A procedure is doing something in order like making a cake. The objects we needed was his shoes cause couldn't walk to the office without shoes, his keys in case the door was locked and his sunglasses cause it was sunny. We failed but at least we got him out the door.

L.I is to give honest feed back to another persons blog post.
Today I have Gave an honest feed back to my friend Liane. Her blog post was about Tongan language week. She explained that she drew a character of a tongan girl. This Image really looked good. The thing I liked about this character photo is that she made the cloths look really simalar to a real tongan person.

Kiwi Can
L.I is to have perseverance.
In Kiwi Can our new topic is perseverance . Perseverance means to never give up and keep on trying your best. Our teacher for kiwi Can was Mrs Lily. group A and group B combined because there was only a little bit of us because a lot of people went to rugby
First in kiwi can we had to sit into four lines. After that we done our energizer . We had to be split into two teams. So the the other two lines went on the other side and the two lines on our side came to the left. The game is that there are four cones. The first one was ten points, The second one was twenty then fifty and one hundred. We had to use the hula hoops to get them in. We got two turns. I didn't get any in cause it was so hard.
After our energizer we sat down in our four lines. Mrs Lily asked us questions about perseverance. The word perseverance means to me is never giving up.
Later On when we finished that we got into our activity. Our activity was there were four stations. We had to use a lot of perseverance in this activity. On the first station there were cards, We had to make the tallest tower, The next station we had to write words that had more than three letters. The third station we had to memorize a catch phrase and make actions for it. The last station is that we had to do challenges like a invisible chair. The station that I really enjoyed was the first station where we had to use cards to make the tallest tower.
I have enjoyed this Kiwi Can because we got to learn a new topic and I enjoyed the games.

Traffic Games | Inquiry
Today I tried out new games about traffic. The first game I tried was Traffic Jam. This one was my favourite to do. To play this we had to pick a level. I started on number one. In this game their was a traffic light that you could control. The whole point of this game was to make sure that the cars don't crash. On the side there are a number of cars that you have to get on the other side and if you leave a lot of cars you lose. The level that I was stuck on was level three. It was hard because I had to control two lights and because there were alot of cars.
The second game was a puzzle game. You had to get the cars to the other side. I didn't like this game because it was all mixed up. There were a lot of cars to get to the other side. The puzzle was the roads.
The thing I learnt about traffic lights is who the inventor(John Peake Knight) is of traffic lights and that the first traffic light was at the corner of great gorge bridge.
The thing I learnt about roundabouts is that it is mainly in USA.
The thing I learnt about Pedestrian Crossing is that it Can be different stripes like black and yellow and black and white.
I enjoyed playing these games And learning new things about Pedestrian Crossing, Traffic lights and Roundabout.

Swimming lessons | Kiwi Sport
L.I is to be safe in water
This term for Kiwisport We have been learning about swimming and being safe in water. This week it was fun because we got to have a new swimming teacher. There was two of them but I didn't know there name.
When we arrived there we went to the spot where we always been training. There were two teachers , they were both girls. Our teachers told us to get into the pool with a safe entry. If you don't know how to do a safe entry you but your two hands on one side and push yourself in the water safely on to the platform.
When we swam to the platform the teachers gave us noodles to skull on first we done head first. To do this you have to be on your back and skull to the other side. If you didn't know how to skull you put your palm in and out. When we got to the other platform we had to skull but legs first. This one was the hardest one because we couldn't move because we kept on going back to the same platform we started from.
After doing Sculling we went and sat at the edge of the pool. Then we dived while sitting down but we couldn't kick with our legs. We all done it one by one because we could've hit into each other.
As Soon as we finished that we done treading water. to do treading water you have to do your legs around in circles. While you do that you call for help as loud as you can and but your hand straight in the air. Don't move your hand around our people will think that you are saying hello.
Later on At the end of our swimming lesson we got to jump in the water and high five them a high five. It was so cool because we haven't jumped in a pull.
I enjoyed coming to this swimming lesson because I got to dive and I got to get taught by two other teaching instructors.

Math Activities
L.I is to learn about perimeters and areas.
In math we were doing different kinds of stations. We had to be but into groups of four. In my group was Fau, Sakina and Miana. There were five stations The first one is where we had to find the smallest perimeter. In the second station we had to cut out rooms with squared paper. My favourite one was the second station because we got to cut and find different times table that had that answer. For the first station the closest perimeter we could get to was 24 . I this slide it will show you all the information of what we did in each station.
