Taneroa | Summer Learning Journey | Wk 1 A 6 Kick Start

L.I to use our creativity to create a Taeroa Pattern.

Panmure Bridge School, had the opportunity to compete in the Summer Learning Journey. SLJ is a organization that encourages younger students to keep their learning going, by doing assigned activities, with themes behind them. SLJ has been running for over 5 years, and this is the 6th year currently.

In this DLO, we were asked to create a Taeroa Pattern, out of a koro. We were only allowed to repeat and resize, recolor and rotate these koro's to make the Taeroa Pattern. In my Taeroa Pattern, I repeated the process, and went for modern and tidy pattern. I really found it hard to come up with a idea that wasn't the same with other bloggers work. I found it interesting, how many different ways we could put a koro and use it to design our own. Here are the results.

Te Reo Maori Atctivity 5 | Week 1 | Summer Learning Journey

L.I to learn how to pronouce maori Sentences.

In this DLO at the top, LS2 had the oppurtunity to work with the Room 5 students to help them with their Te Reo Maori Knowledge. Mayshar and I had worked together to try find out which words best fit into the sentences. In this activity, we were asked to listen to an audio that conncluded a maori sentence. On the next slide we had to to match the words to create the sentence. Another part of this activity was to draw a picture of an activity that, me and my family members would do. I drew a image of me and family members at the beach. I drew this, because my family mostly likes going ot the beach, as it brings them joy and makes them remember how they lived in the islands. Here are the results.

Fishy False teeth Activity 3 | Week 1 SLJ

LI: To create your own comic strip of an imaginary conversation.

Panmure Bridge School, had the opportunity to compete in the Summer Learning Journey. SLJ is a organization that encourages younger students to keep their learning going, by doing assigned activities, with themes behind them. SLJ has been running for over 5 years, and this is the 6th year currently.

In this activity, we were asked to read a article about four characters.

This is story about two men who go fishing. the First man gets Ocean sick, so he sneezes. He sneezes until his teeth fell out and when it did, The second man started laughing. The second man then pulls out a fish that has teeth in it, and he remembers that person who lost their teeth. He then gives them back to Person 1, but it wasn't his. The Taxi Driver and his Wife had pulled a prank on them, which caused the second man to cause legal action.

In this comic, we saw a video with the same article, so we put it into a comic. Here are the results

Insect Art | Acitivity 4 Summer Learning Journey

L.I to get inspiration from Insect art, and use nature to express our creativity.

Panmure Bridge School, had the opportunity to compete in the Summer Learning Journey. SLJ is a organization that encourages younger students to keep their learning going, by doing assigned activities, with themes behind them. SLJ has been running for over 5 years, and this is the 6th year currently.

In this activity we were asked to watch a video that was created by Raku Inoue. Raku Inoue, is a Canadian artist who uses, twigs, flowers, leaves, seeds etc. to create complex portraits, of insects.

LS2(& Room 5) had watched a video that explained how Raku Inoue, had created these small portraits. It was then our turn to try out these intricate portraits. LS2 had walked around through the school collecting whatever they needed. Most students got twigs, potentilla, wheat, lavenders & etc. After collecting our resources, we created our masterpiece.

I chose to create a butterfly. in my flower, I filled up the wings with flowers as you can see. I used twigs to do the outlining of this butterfly.

What is a Insect? A insect is a small arthropod animal that has six legs and generally one or two pairs of wings.

Three Facts about a Butterfly:

1.  There are almost 20,000 butterfly species.
2. Butterflies only live for a few weeks
3. Butterfly wings are transparent

I found this activity very fun because we got to explore our creativity and got to explore the outside nature. I found it interesting that this was very challenging and how their are 20,000 different species of butterflies.

Treasure Hunt with Nano-Girl 1 | Summer Learning Journey

L.I To collect the resources needed to create our Superpower experiment.

Panmure Bridge School, had the opportunity to compete in the Summer Learning Journey. SLJ is a organisation that encourages younger students to keep their learning going, by doing assigned activities, with themes behind them. SLJ has been running for over 5 years, and this is the 6th year currently.

In this SLJ activity, the Nano-girl had asked us to collect these items that she had listed in her video. I really liked the fact that she explained that these are items that most people would view as rubbish. Some materials we couldn't get, as they were in school-groups, which we just replaced them with things that are at the same use. These materials were created to prepare for tomorrow . Here are the Results.

Comment Activity 2| Summer Learning Journey

L.I To write a quality blog comment on someone else’s blog that starts a rich learning conversation.

Leaving a quality blog comment on another  student’s blog helps us make connections to new learning by asking open ended questions that encourage a reply and motivate the blogger to ask their own question in return. This is how a comment thread starts and when that happens we make connections with a wider audience who we can learn with and from.

Today one of the activities that were apart of the Summer Learning Journey was to comment on anybody's blog of our own choice. I chose to comment on Jessie. Jessie is a Yr-4 student from Glen Innes School. I particularly chose Jessie, because I was really impressed with her blog and video. This blog post was about the First Summer Leaning Journey Activity.

Christmas Board Game

LI: To create a digital board game for the juniors.

Link to game

In this DLO show above, LS2 had the ability and opportunity, to create a board game using this Google Draws. The main purpose was to entertain the juniors. We first saw an exemplar of this, so we could get a clear idea of what we were doing. I chose to create a game of snakes and ladders. The only twist with these board games, was that we had to make them Christmas themed. The main characters for my story was an angel looking for the star. This connected to Christmas because of the star and how it very often used at the top of a Christmas tree.

Operation Christmas Drop

L.I to learn and inform others about Operation Christmas Drop.

The Operation Christmas Drop is the longest humanitarian aid, that has been created to help impact others life's from remote islands. The Anderson Force, Japanese and Australian forces, have allied together to create a box full of supplies that the islands will need to survive. These forces has also partnered up with businesses to get these resources. These boxes are mainly dropped to islands near Guam(a U.S Territory island). These are often dropped around Christmas. Fau and I had learnt a lot from this. We found it really interesting that it has been running for 68 years.

Last week of Tech | Science

L.I to learn about the Leaf Structure.

This week, was the last week that PBS had at tech for the year. The last lesson that Mrs Sharma had taught us this week was about the Leaf Structure. In this image above, The Yr 7's went around the Tamaki College and collected different leafs. after collecting these leaves, we glued them into our books and wrote the description of each leaves(Size, Texture, Color, Thickness & Pattern). There are different parts of the leaf structure. First is the Photo Synthesis. The Palisade cells traps the light from the top, this is why there are are different shades from the upper and bottom part of the leaf. There are more partsto a leaf which you can watch in this video. Link

I really enjoyed this weeks lesson about a Leafs Structure, because I didnt know much about the topic, so it was very interesting.

This was the last week of Tech, so we were slightly sad to have this ended, because LS2 really had a lot of fun at Tech.

I really enjoyed Robotics beause I have never done something like that before, and because of how we got to use Mbots. Thank you Mrs Ferguson.

I really enjoyed Food Tech, because I learnt how to make dinner for my family and it was very interesting, learning about Hygiene. Thank you Mrs Hecker.

I really enjoyed learning about Science because, I really got to experiment new things and got to build up my knowledge of Science. Thank you Mrs Sharma.

Book Club

LI: to unpack the text together

Fau, Lukah, Chris, Vayan, Afatia, Azatulah and I were introduced to the activity, Book Club by Mrs Anderson.  Each member of the book club has a role to take each week. The 7 roles are, The Discussion Director, Connector, Summariser, Passage Picker, Word Master, Illustrator and Meeting Report.

The book that we read this week was called “Bok Choy” by Paul Mason. The moral of the story was describing the differences between the chinese people compared to the english. This story unpacked the racism faced by chinese miners, who came to New Zealand in 1800s to seek their fortune in the gold fields. From this story we learnt it is important to accept one another despite who we are and how we look.

Once we had completed the tasks for our roles, we reported back to the group and shared our thoughts and ideas . The Discussion Director’s asked questions and guided everybody to be on the right track. The Summariser, picked 20 most important words from the story, to 6, and used it to summarise the text. The Passage Picker would pick a part of the story and write why it’s important to you. The Connector had to make connections to themself, to text, and to the world from the book.

I enjoyed that each person had a role and everybody contributed to the group. I found it interesting that everyone had a rich learning conversation . I'm looking forward to doing this again.

Te Whanau Raukura Performance

Panmure Bridge had the honour to have a Professinal Kapa Haka group come in and give us a performence. This group was from Te Whanau Raukura, and they have mostly performed at Auckland Museum. The performence started of with a Conch. This was a traditional trumpet, to welcome guests in. As they arrived at the stage, they first sang a song. One of the girls started to do very fancy moves with her Poipoi. A Poi was used by males to increase their flexibility, build co-ordination and upper body strength for battle, but as the Maori culture grew, it then became a female traditon as a form of comfort or welcoming. The next Item that was introduced was the Taiaha. The Taiaha was used in war. The feathery part of the Taiaha was used as a distraction, so taht they could use the would to bruise the enemy. As a gift in return the boys from PBS Kapa Haka group, peformed a Haka in return. After this Peformance, Becca, from the Kapahaka group, came into our class-room and taught us a game called Pukana.

Election 2 | Inquiry

LI: To think deeply about a change I would make.

If you were Prime Minister, what one thing would you do to change NZ for the better and why?

I would change the rent of some peoples houses, like $200 - $100 down, so for people who are having trouble providing things for their kids, they can focus on their kids and their education.

Who will get my vote

L.I To decide which political party will get your vote by making an informed .

In this DLO, I had decided which Political Party I will be voting for. I read policies of different political parties, and I fairly agree with the Green Parties Decision. I really liked that Green Party would involve young speakers in policy decisions, if they are affected with the policy. If I was 18 I would vote for Marama because they will do a lot for NZ.

Cybersmart - Using Images

LI: To understand that images should add to the information in text by allowing the reader to make a visual connection.

This DLO shown above, Ong and I had collaborated to tell others why it is important to make your images match the content shown in Learning Posters. We think that it is very important for users to make their images match the topic, this is so that when others come across your Learning DLO, they get a better Visual. Ong and I had created examples in this DLO above. I actually found it really interesting, how much people don't match their images to the topic.

Mary Anning Geology | Research Challenge 2

LI: To use smart searching skills to find out about a scientist from the past who made an important contribution to their field of science.

This DLO showcase's the research that we found about Mary Anning. This research Challenge included me find one scientist from each area of Science. Including Geometry, I had chosen Mary Anning. Mary Anning, was known for her Major discoveries, including ichthyosaur fossils. Ichthyosaur is an extinct reptile which also means a lizard. This lead her to investigating and exploring more of these creatures. Until March 9, 1847, when she passed away. I found it really interesting that Mary Anning was the first person/female to find these sort of creatures. I really found it interesting because I would have never imagined somebody finding the bones of these long ago creatures.

Main Ideas Science | Reading

LI: to find the most vital ideas from the information to help us answer the question “What is science?”.

This DLO is identifying the ideas of science we have learnt from the information we have gained. To find the vital information, we negotiated by collaborating and communicating with our team. We shared our opinions and ideas, we took notes and from them we selected and rejected information to get to our final conclusion.

For us the 3 main vital ideas are:
1. Science is the discovery of What, Why, and How events happen
2. The three main branches of science are Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
3. There are two main categories of science, and they are Basic and Applied Science

Science Summary | Reading

L!: To Summarise the information.

This DLO is highlighting our summary about what we know about science. In our groups, we have been sharing our ideas on posted notes and found the key words. To then create a summary about the topic. We needed to skim and scam for the main ideas to create this DLO. We also had to join our ideas to create a more efficient idea.

We used our new question dice to help us construct some questions we want to find more about. The three questions we made using the dices were

When did science start?
How will science progress in the future?
Who was the first scientist?

Making Connections to problem solving

L.I To Explore Problem solving through Tangrams.

In these images seen above, LS2, has worked together to create something called a Tangram. A Tangram is a Ancient Chinese Puzzle, which was likely known around the 1800's; and used to help out with boredom.  We first started with an A4 paper and scissors. With nothing written down, we just listened, to follow the instructions, with the last pieces we had our first challenge was to make a square with those pices. At first it was very hard, but we worked together as one to collaborate, try out options, ask questions and tried our best. The main point of this was to listen and follow the instructions. It was also to hep us out with figuring out the main points of problem solving.

The Sunrise Climb

Finally, it’s my time. The Climb I have been waiting for is now here. Once I get to the top, I’ll see the breath-taking view, where I won’t be found, and my hard-work will now pay off. Climbing, as high as the Sun went along with me. Since the day i’ve started climbing, I've finally found my hobby. He sure will be jealous, and now I can get my money that he owed me. No one will be able to underestimate me now. I can’t wait for the results.

The warm colors wrap around me, and the sun glances throughout the rocks. My heart starts to tremble towards my feet and my legs seem to not work; but that won’t get in my way of completing this. The rocks, feeding of my hands, as I couldn’t climb, as long as I lived; Until I took the turn for the worst. Climbing the left direction wasn't a good idea. While my chest was just as similar as the sunset, I noticed my view from the bottom has started to fade from my eyes. “Ahhh! Oww!” I exclaim, as the rocks hit my eyes.

I’m guessing that one of my fingers had let go, just as my head did. I was eager for the money, that I didn’t even notice; I might risk my life for this. As I fell into a conscious hole, full of mindsets. Just a couple more steps, a couple more. With a whole rock coming outwards, blocking my space, to climb up to the bright side, I noticed I have been thinking about all of the negative things, of what “I can’t or “I won’t be able to do”. I thought to myself, “I don’t need to climb this whole mountain to achieve my goal, I have a whole life line for me.

Lightning never strikes twice, does it? | Writing

L.I To use 5 - 7 - 10 to write creatively.

As seen down below, I have used my creativity in 5 to 10 min doing this, which can be shown as 5 - 7 - 10. In pairs, I have collaborated with Fau to try and give my opinions on how she can make her writing better. She has also done the same for mine; where we spent 7 minutes giving each other feedback. This was a good activity, as we have come to the beginning of the term. This activity also had helped me with being creative. To do this activity, Mrs. Anderson had used an image and a beginner starter to our story/narrative. I had learnt from this to write creatively and to try to share my opinions on others work.

Lightning never strikes twice, does it?

That was the question that occupied their frightened minds as they crouched, huddling
together, next to the pile of dusty sacks in the base of the windmill.
Where we were forbidden to cross. As we could smell an unpleasant scent that occurred inside our nose, KAPOW! Our eyes were lifted towards the dash of light that crossed the field. As time flew by, it l wasn’t safe for us. Jason and I struck through the storm searching for Elizabeth and Jerry.

A Windmill also wasn’t a safe place for us to stay since it concluded electricity. This also wasn’t once a bolt of lightning I have ever seen. “It’s time to go now we should be safe!” Jason informed me. With an unsure face of mine, he grabbed me by the wrist; and we ran through the deadly lights. THAMP! BASH! BOOM!

Through our way out we get pulled into a bear trap full of trees. ZAP! BOOM! Trees trapped both ways into an unknown path leading into a mysterious Trail of footprints that seem to be unknown. Running as we follow this trail, that leads to an unknown house.  It was at least half a kilometer away from the house.

We were also in the open which exposed the lighting to Jason. I didn’t turn back thinking that it was just a small tree that had fallen. The question that occupied my mind was “Are we gonna make it out of this alive? Am I gonna live?”. As I made it through the natural disaster; turning around thinking that

As I walked through the doors of this unknown house, therefore beings stood beyond me. “Elizabeth! Jerry!” Exclaiming in relief. Relieved to see that they were still alive and Quickly went outside to see Jason outside of the front door.

Mr Johnston came and taught us what periscopes ares, how they are used and who uses them. We found out that the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection. That means if the light hits the mirror at a 45° angle it reflects light back at a  45°. Chris & I had collaborated together to create a DLO about the Polynesian Panthers. The Polynesian Panthers is a Movement or Group of poeple that have been protesting, to eduacate other's on the Polynesian History. Evaluating the "Dawn Raids & Polynesian Panthers | Reading

L.I To read the information in the text, think about what you read and form an opinion.
In this DLO, The Kakapo's have been Evaluating the Situation that happened in the Mid 1970's, known as the "Dawn Raids" that had happened in Aotearoa. The Dawn raids was a action that took Polyneasians by suprise. The New Zealand(Auckland) Immigration had took the decision of Police officers to Deport Polyneasian's from NZ back to their country. This also included the terms of "Over-stayers". This word was described as Polyneasians. As this went on, These young University Students, stepped up, and protested against this tragedy, known as the "Polyneasian Panthers". The reason that the Polynesian Panthers were included, was to educate others and to get polynesian's to be traeted equally.

As a Polynesian person my-self, In my opinion, I don't think that Dawn raiding shouldn't have been a thing, because their are other ways to solve this peacfully, either then tearing families without even saying a goodbye.
