The Treaty of Waitangi Summary

L.I to learn about Literacy Weaving
L.I to summaries and understand the Treaty of Waitangi.
In this activity we were asked to get into groups with anybody we would like. In each group we were asked to create a short summary of the Treaty of Waitangi. We also had read a story about The Treaty of Waitangi and we also had to find words that we found important and add it into that summary. We also had to pick two words from the story that we found mostly important and find and try to draw an image of those words.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi was signed on the 6th of February 1840. It is a treaty between Aotearoa and the Crown. The treaty meant that Aotearoa would be under the sovereignty of the crown.  It was signed by over 500 Maori chiefs who wanted to live in a peaceful nation. The Crown started to betray the trust of the Maori people which caused violence and conflict between the two cultures. The New Zealand land wars that began 5 years after the treaty was signed, which resulted in many Maori losing their land. In 1872 after the Native Land Court was set up, the land was still being taken. Something that many generations have tried to put right.
