Opstical Illusion | Summer Learning Journey Week 1 Activity 7

L.I To use our creativity to create and design our own optical.

In this DLO I have re-created a optical illusion. this illusion is a Paradox Illusion, which means a illusion that is impossible to solve. As you can see here this cube is hard to figure out which side it is facing. This illusion was created by M.C Escher. M.C Escher is a dutch graphic artist who is mostly well known for his impossible construction, infinity explorations, design, and tessellations. In one of the potraits that he had made it showed how this illusion was made below. In the potrait, it showed a young boy sitting on a bench playing with this object. Below this DLO, a video of me explaing the types of illusions, and more about M.C Escher is their as another part of completing the step it up challenge.

Comment down below what is your favourite type of illusion!

  1. Kia ora Sulia,

You’ve done a brilliant job recreating the paradox illusion! Ka pai! Was it difficult to do? I also really like how you explained the origins of the illusion, and gave some facts about it’s creator! It really adds to your post!

What drew you to this illusion? What does it make you think of? It makes me think of a portal to another world. What world might it go to?

For more points, you can add another post showing how to make an optical illusion if you would like.

Keep up the amazing work, happy blogging!

    1. Greetings Shannon,

Sorry for the late reply. Thank you so much for the awesome feedback!

I didn't find making the optical illusion difficult, but i did find making the video fairly challenging. WHat drew me into this illusion was how it was a Paradox illusion. i fairly think that Paradox illusions(such as this one) is one of the most entertaining illusions. This illusion makes me think of a Rubix cube as they both have similar elements, don't you think?

I think that this illusion might go to a very vapormax world.

What is a new fact that you learnt about optical illusions?

Looking forward To Hearing From You!

    2. Hello Sulia,

It definitely does remind me of a Rubix Cube! Can you think of any other three dimensional shapes that you could make a similar paradoxical effect with?

      What's a vapormaz world?

A fact I know about optical illusions is that a lot of the time, they're caused because we can't look at multiple colours at one single time. Our eyes can't process it!

      Bye for now,
      Shannon (SLJ)

  2. Malo e lelei Sulia,

Wow! Your optical illusion looks amazing. It was so tricky to guess if the cube was broken from the top. Great job, you were amazing. Good job on writing a well detailed blurb, as it was very informative for me. I came to learn many new facts through these as well. You were very wise by choosing to make the design on a google draw and not on paper because I think it wouldn't have looked that effective as it looks now. What is something new you learnt after completing this activity?

    Superb work! Keep it up!
